FISM Asia Hotels
I realized that most major hotel sites like Klook do not have smaller recommended hotels, like City Inn and Hongbo Hotel listed. You can try Trip.com which is more China-centric because it is the global brand of ctrip. I have a referral code so you can get a $20 discount when you book.

Things to note about the convention hotel
I think the nearest (cheapest) City Inn is Splendid (there are about 10 in Shenzhen so don’t book the wrong one as some are very far) There is a City Inn (Happy Valley) which is nearest, but it wasn’t listed in any of global chains sites, so I assumed this is one not for foreigners. (I think I stayed there when I performed in Happy Valley many years ago so it is rather old so not recommended!)
City Inn Splendid is about 1km++ away.
Hongbo looks like the nearest 3⭐️ hotel and Westin or Intercontinental looks like the nearest 5⭐️ hotel.
Trip.com has a flight (SQ) and hotel deal and the total comes up to be less than $600 for City Inn for 5 nights, though the flight times are red-eye flights!
Happy Valley is near Metro lines 1&2 so you can easily get to other places.
Happy Valley is big! But I think most of the convention activities are nearer to the entrance. From my experience, late Sep tends to be quieter at the theme parks. But 1st to 5th Oct can be rather crazy so queues for food are rather unpleasant if you want to continue your stay to catch the International magic festival after that.
